The Ten Essential Shared Capabilities (10ESC) Learning Materials

ESC for Mental HealthThe Ten Essential Shared Capabilities (ESC) project was established by the NIMHE National Workforce Programme. The ESC descriptions lay out the capabilities that all staff working in mental health services should achieve as a minimum part of core curricula of all training programmes.

The team at MH2aSC have had the responsibility to maintain the ESC programme and develop approaches to encourage the integration of the essential capabilities into a range of other resources.

10 ESC Induction Module

This unit is designed for facilitators running focused training at Induction programmes on Values Based Practice.  Facilitators are encouraged to edit this section as required.  Please note this is a stand alone training package being a brief distillation of the complete ESC materials (below) and represents a broad introduction to the topic of values based practice.

This module is made up of guidance notes for facilitators  as an aid to becoming familiar with key aspects of values based practice and the 10 ESC.

This module provides participants with an overview of all the 10 ESC’s.  Participants are encouraged to review the relevance of the 10 descriptors to their daily practice as workers for mental health.
